Celebrating 10 Years of Spotify’s Viva Latino Playlist and the Global Rise of Latin Music

A decade ago, Latin music made up just 8% of global Spotify streams. Today, it accounts for more than a quarter (27%) of all listening worldwide—a testament to the artists and fans who have fueled its unstoppable rise.

Now celebrating its 10th anniversary, Viva Latino, Spotify’s flagship Latin music playlist, has been at the center of this evolution. Launched in 2015 as one of the first major Latin music playlists on a streaming platform, Viva Latino has helped connect listeners to new voices, genre-defining anthems, and the next wave of global superstars. In that time, global Latin music streams have grown by over 2,500% on Spotify, representing an increase of more than 587 billion streams.

At its heart, Viva Latino is about celebrating the artists who are defining the sound of a generation and the fans who make every song a movement. Spotify’s music editors curate the playlist to spotlight rising stars, honor established icons, and capture the moments that matter most to the Latin music community. More than just a playlist, Viva Latino has been a bridge, exporting identity, sounds, and culture to the world.

“Viva Latino’s influence on the global Latin music landscape over the last decade is unmatched,” said Antonio Vazquez, Head of US Latin Editorial, Spotify. “Over the years, the playlist has become one of the most recognized destinations for Latin music and a synonym for Latin hits. It has opened doors and served as a catalyst for the success of so many Latin artists who are now global superstars, and we couldn’t be more proud to have created those connections and helped tell their stories. Viva Latino is in constant evolution, and I can’t wait to see what the next 10 years will bring.”

Spotlighting breakthroughs and cultural shifts

Viva Latino has played a key role in surfacing hits before they topped the charts. For instance, Anitta’s “Envolver” appeared on the playlist 132 days before hitting No. 1 globally; Myke Towers’ “LALA” 99 days before; and Xavi’s “La Diabla” 29 days before. For artists like KAROL G and Rauw Alejandro, early playlist support helped introduce their music to new audiences and set the stage for global stardom.

As Latin music has evolved, so has Viva Latino, reflecting the rise of corridos tumbados, Música Mexicana, and other genres now making waves worldwide.

A decade of impact

Viva Latino has helped redefine the reach of Latin music. Here are just a few highlights from its first decade:

    • Viva Latino is now one of Spotify’s top five playlists globally.
    • Listeners have streamed the playlist for more than 595 million hours since 2017.
    • La Bachata” by Manuel Turizo holds the record for the longest run on Viva Latino (33 months), followed by:
    • “Hey Mor” by Feid and Ozuna is the most-streamed song in Viva Latino history.
    • Beéle’s breakthrough: Within a month of his Viva Latino debut in 2019, Beéle’s streams surged by 168%.

A platform for artists, a community for fans

As Viva Latino turns 10, we’re celebrating the talented artists and passionate fans who have made the playlist a global destination, and we’re looking ahead to even more discoveries, anthems, and milestones.

Destacando avances y cambios culturales

Verano Forever: Latin Hits Bringing the Heat on Spotify

As the mercury rises and the days stretch long, Spotify has been turning up the vibrant sounds of South America, Central America, and the Caribbean with our Verano Forever campaign. And the playlist with the same name holding it all together is Verano Forever

But the party isn’t over yet—in fact, it’s about to begin. That’s because Verano Forever is also a full-blown celebration going down in the heart of Miami on August 22. With its rich blend of cultures and deep ties to Latin music, Miami was a natural choice for this immersive event. It’s more than just a party; it’s a space where artists and fans can connect through shared rhythms, stories, and the unmistakable energy of Latin summer.

For Gen Z Latinos, music transcends mere sound; it’s a vital conduit for cultural connection, a catalyst for unforgettable experiences, and a cherished escape in a fast-paced world. Spotify understands this intrinsic link, recognizing that summer itself is a mood—a time for disconnection and reconnection, for dancing away worries, and for savoring every sun-drenched moment.

For the love of Latin

To that end, Verano Forever also underscores the excitement of the genre’s global ascent, a movement kicked off by artists like Bad Bunny and now brought to life through a new wave of trailblazers.

But it isn’t just the latest hits fueling the 2025 beat. These fan-favorite tracks (all more than five years old) see a spike in global streams each summer:

    1. LA CANCIÓN by Bad Bunny and J Balvin
    2. Callaita by Bad Bunny and Tainy
    3. No Me Conoce – Remix by Bad Bunny, J Balvin, and JHAYCO
    4. Danza Kuduro by Don Omar and Lucenzo
    5. Con Calma by Daddy Yankee and Snow

In the U.S., over 12,500 user-generated playlists include the words “verano AND Latin” or “Summer AND Latin” in the title.

The most-streamed tracks in the U.S. on the Verano Forever playlist within the last five years are:

    1. Si Antes Te Hubiera Conocido by KAROL G
    2. Tattoo – Remix by Rauw Alejandro, Camilo

The most-streamed artists on the Verano Forever playlist over the past five years in the U.S. are:

    1. KAROL G
    2. Rauw Alejandro
    3. Bad Bunny
    4. Feid
    5. J Balvin
    6. Camilo
    7. Manuel Turizo
    8. Myke Towers
    9. Ozuna
    10. Maluma

Also at its heart are the dynamic subgenres shaping the contemporary Latin soundscape. Spotify is creating a dedicated space for listeners to discover and immerse themselves in these rising movements. From Afrobeats Latino, where Latin elements fuse with African rhythms, to Latin House making waves in the electronic dance scene, and Caribbean fusions blending funk, reggae, and soul, the diversity is exhilarating. Even salsa is experiencing a vibrant resurgence, with a new generation of Latin artists breathing life into the iconic genre.

A backstage pass to the heat

Verano Forever will feature in-depth artist storytelling, highlighting the journeys of artists who contribute to this rich tapestry. Names including Rawayana, Beéle, and Myke Towers among others will receive the spotlight with narratives that often trace back to humble beginnings, offering inspiring and relevant insights for fans.

Verano Forever is a testament to Latin music’s undeniable global influence and its power to define a season. Spotify is showing up where Latin culture lives, creating exclusive, fan-first moments that solidify its role as the ultimate curator of a vibrant summertime soundtrack.

Spotify and FC Barcelona Bring K-Pop to the Game with ITZY in Korea

Since we announced our global partnership with FC Barcelona in 2022, we’ve been finding new ways to unite the worlds of music and football—amplifying artists, connecting fans, and making the matchday experience even more memorable.

This summer, we brought that vision to life in South Korea for the very first time. As part of FC Barcelona’s 2025 Asia Tour, we teamed up with K-Pop sensation ITZY for a localized campaign that put Korean creativity front and center.

With friendly matches in Seoul and Daegu as the backdrop, our first Korea activation under the Spotify x FC Barcelona partnership gave us the perfect opportunity to celebrate the passion of Korean fans through music and sport.

“Bringing Spotify’s partnership with FC Barcelona to Korea is a powerful moment,” said Marc Hazan, Vice President, Partnerships and Marketing, Spotify. “We’re proud to feature ITZY as a part of this collaboration, which celebrates Korean creativity on a global stage and reflects our mission to connect artists and fans in unforgettable ways.”

“South Korea has long been home to some of the most passionate football and music fans in the world,” said Marc Bruix, Director of Partnerships, FC Barcelona. “Through this special partnership with Spotify, we’re excited to bring our global vision to life in a way that connects with local culture. Partnering with ITZY, a group that represents the vibrancy and global appeal of Korean music, perfectly reflects our shared ambition to reach new audiences and create unforgettable moments.”

“We had such a great time being part of this campaign,” said the members of ITZY. “It was a fun opportunity to show how music and football can come together to create something truly exciting for fans everywhere.”

ITZY-curated playlists

We invited ITZY to take over Barça on Tour: Korea 2025, curating 30 tracks—including 10 of their own and 20 warm-up picks—to get fans hyped for kickoff. The playlist is available globally on Spotify, with ITZY on the cover sporting official FC Barcelona jerseys.

To keep the momentum going, they’re also taking over WOR K OUT—Korea’s No. 1 workout playlist on Spotify, with more than 1.3M followers—starting August 9. It’s packed with their favorite tracks to keep post-game energy high.

Matchday moments

To amplify the spirit of the occasion, Spotify and FC Barcelona produced exclusive content featuring a special meet-and-greet between ITZY and Barça players at Seoul World Cup Stadium. The interactive footage was shared across socials, bringing fans even closer to this unique moment.

Pitch-side presence

During the Seoul match, fans saw Spotify branding across LED boards, goal-line signage, and press backdrops, and they’ll be seeing more of it in Daegu. We also took over one of Seoul’s most iconic digital displays, Gangnam Media Sync, to share the campaign with the city.

From jersey takeovers with global superstars like Travis Scott, Coldplay, KAROL G, The Rolling Stones, ROSALÍA, and Drake to localized cultural campaigns like this one with ITZY, our partnership with FC Barcelona continues to turn football into a creative canvas that celebrates artists and the fans who love them.

KAROL G and Spotify Bring ‘Tropicoqueta’ to Life With an Unforgettable NYC Celebration

To celebrate the release of KAROL G’s acclaimed new album, Tropicoqueta, Spotify teamed up with the Latin icon to host an exclusive, immersive experience at Paradise Club in New York City. Channeling the bold energy of Karol’s new era, more than 200 fans took part in a night of music and culture.

Blending sounds from across Latin America, Tropicoqueta is a tribute to Karol’s roots. Our celebration brought the new album to life in a one-of-a-kind setting that captured its rhythms and colorful aesthetic. Guests explored the tropical-inspired space before gathering around the stage, where a choreographer taught the crowd some of the fresh dance moves featured in Karol’s latest music video.

Check Out Our Updated Songs of Summer Predictions (Complete With Five New Wild Card Picks)

Last month, Spotify’s annual Songs of Summer predictions made their return, and fans have rallied around the anthems they can’t get enough of. Some have been working late (…’cuz they’re a singer), while plenty have been feeling so Julia. Meanwhile, others have been looking for someone to match their freak

Now, for the first time ever, we’re giving you a midsummer update that reveals the top 15 songs from our original list, along with five new “wild card” songs. These updated predictions reflect our final contenders for the Song of Summer as we approach the end of the season.

Backed by Spotify data and cultural buzz, and hand-picked by our global team of editors, our wild cards were either released after we made our initial predictions, or they’ve experienced a recent spike in global streams. Wild card track “360” by Charli xcx, for example, has experienced an 80% increase in U.S. streams in the past month, while streams of “HOT TO GO!” by Chappell Roan have spiked 110% globally on Spotify.

Spotify’s updated Songs of Summer list

(Listed alphabetically by artist first name; wild card picks in italics

Over the last year, we’ve seen increased popularity of dance and Afro house globally, and summer is the perfect time for these songs to cross over into the mainstream.

“‘Move’ has been an undeniable hit this summer and an obvious choice for our editors as one of our wild card additions,” said Luisa Kristen, Senior Editor, Germany, Austria, and Switzerland at Spotify. “The song features the perfect recipe of beautiful Afro house production, earwormy melody, and pop lyricism—sounds that tend to thrive with listeners in warmer weather globally.”

Luisa also noted that in the last few weeks, the song has charted all around the world across many parts of Europe, the U.K., and the U.S. It drove record streams for the German group globally on its release day and was recently added to Today’s Top Hits—a monumental achievement for German artists and the Afro house genre overall.

“Stumblin’ In,” which was released in November 2023, is also a strong example of how a song can have an extensive lifespan, cross borders, and experience a cultural resurgence during different moments of the year. It highlights the power of Spotify—our editors have tested it in various playlists, and since its release, it has grown and reached new listeners around the world.

Tinashe’s “Nasty” also surged during the first two weeks of the Songs of Summer predictions reveal, both globally and in the U.S. Since then, the song has seen over a 110% increase in streams globally and in the U.S.

Celebrating 2024’s Songs of Summer

To continue the summer fun, we hosted our 2024 Songs of Summer event in Brooklyn this week, featuring electric performances from two of our contenders, Tinashe and Tommy Richman.

If you can’t get fit without music, you’re not alone. Today, Antonela Roccuzzo, one of the most iconic figures on social media, is sharing her Spotify playlist, WORKOUT X ANTONELA ROCCUZZO. It’s filled with music that energizes her and accompanies her workouts.

This is the first of several playlists in an exclusive partnership between Antonela Roccuzzo and Spotify, offering a glimpse into the hits that soundtrack the daily life of the Argentine entrepreneur, model, and mom of three.

Featuring a number of today’s hottest Latin artists, like Nicki Nicole, Feid, Bizarrap, and, KAROL G, as well as RADAR featured artists like Maria Becerra, Antonela’s playlist will help get you motivated to hit the gym.

“Music is a part of me. I have always listened to music from everywhere, but there is something about Latin music that fascinates me,” Antonela said. “We have incredible artists, and it fills me with pride that they represent us internationally. Women in particular are making stronger strides, bringing their importance to the industry. The fact that they occupy the top spots in the music charts today speaks to their hard and constant work, and of course, their talent.”

To learn more about what fans can expect from future playlists, For the Record checked in with Antonela about the way music fits into her life and the artists she’s listening to most right now.

How does music fit into your day-to-day life?

Music is not just a part of my daily life, but a part of me. Whether I’m at home, at gatherings with friends, or in the car, there’s always music playing—and it can’t be missing when it’s time for a workout.

What was it like to team up with Spotify?

Being able to collaborate with Spotify is great because it’s part of my daily life; the process was very natural. When we moved to Miami, I learned that the brand was starting a project for Latin American female talents. In Buenos Aires, they held a festival with only female artists, which seemed like a great and very important initiative. Being able to support these projects is very gratifying to me.

Can you tell us a little about the first playlist you’ve created?

I love having playlists that accompany my different moods. I usually start the day doing something active, and music is always an extra motivation that helps me get in a rhythm. So when I heard a new song that I liked, I added it to the list. Creating this playlist was a fun and personal process for me.

What’s your song of the summer?

I don’t know which one it’ll be, but lately, I’ve been listening to Imagine Dragons and Danny Ocean the most.

After you give Antonela’s playlist a listen, you can discover more about the social media celebrity on her Instagram profile.

No sé cuál será, pero últimamente he estado escuchando mucho a Imagine Dragons y Danny Ocean.

Música Mexicana Isn’t Just a Phenomenon in Mexico and the U.S.—It’s Taking Over Latin America.

As one of the fastest-growing sounds worldwide, Música Mexicana is more than just a genre. It’s an essential part of Mexican culture, encompassing its history, traditions, and values.

Take the corrido, for example—a traditional form of song born from Mexico’s revolutionary times, and one of Música Mexicana’s most prominent styles. Corridos tell the stories of both real and fictional characters, inviting the audience to immerse themselves in heroic lyrics that convey past and present experiences.

But the genre’s impact isn’t limited to Mexico. Instead, it resonates with fans from different countries and cultures. And thanks to social media—as well as the global Spotify charts—Música Mexicana has seen a sharp uptick in popularity. Between 2018 and 2023, Música Mexicana streams on Spotify grew by more than 440% globally, and last year alone, streams rose by 55%. Additionally, Gen Z streams of Música Mexicana have grown by nearly 60% on Spotify over the last year.

Música Mexicana’s influence has especially grown throughout Latin America, where streams have increased by more than 195% between 2020 and 2023.

Cross-cultural exchange

Need further proof of Música Mexicana’s spread throughout Latin America? Look to the regular stream of recent hits that feature the genre’s biggest stars alongside the hottest hitmakers throughout the region.

Last year, Grupo Frontera collaborated with Bad Bunny on “un100xto,” which became the most-streamed Música Mexicana song in a single day, as well as the group’s biggest hit to date. And just this month, Natanael Cano appeared on Bizarrap’s “Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 59.”

Made in Mexico, big in Colombia

In Colombia, where Mexican culture has also left its mark on film, television, and food, Música Mexicana has developed a life of its own, with Spotify streams surging by 445% between 2020 and 2023. The instruments, melodies, and lyrics of the genre have greatly influenced the current generation of Colombian music and in turn spawned a number of collaborations between Mexican and Colombian artists, beginning with Christian Nodal and Piso 21’s “Pa’ Olvidarme De Ella.”

Most notably, Peso Pluma appeared on Karol G’s “QLONA” and invited Blessd to hop on “LAS MORRAS,” while Carin Leon teamed up with Maluma on “Según Quién” and Piso 21 on “Que Triste.” Perhaps not coincidentally, both artists stand as the top two Música Mexicana artists when it comes to Spotify streams in Colombia.

These collaborations have enhanced the visibility of the genre in Colombia, resulting in a greater number of Colombian listeners’ embracing Música Mexicana artists and songs.

Scratching the surface

Música Mexicana may be enjoying its moment in the Colombian sun, but all signs indicate that the genre is just heating up abroad. For touring Música Mexicana artists, Colombia has emerged as a must-stop destination, with Carin Leon performing there for the first time in 2023; Grupo Frontera took the stage at the Estéreo Picnic Festival in Bogotá earlier this year.

While Música Mexicana’s stars have found a wealth of success in Colombia, Colombian artists are making waves in Mexico as well: Colombian singer-songwriter Camilo—who has collaborated with the likes of Grupo Firme on “Alaska,” Carin Leon on “Una Vida Pasada,” and Christian Nodal on “La Mitad”—receives more streams from fans in Mexico City than anywhere else in the world.

Spotify has been proud to support Música Mexicana and its rise into a global powerhouse. As its artists continue to expand its reach across Latin America, Colombia, and beyond, we’ll be there to support them.
