NEW YORK STATE OF MIND

Spotify Lends a Helping Hand to NYC Neighbors, the 9/11 Memorial & Museum

Each April, runners and walkers of all stripes gather together in Lower Manhattan for the 9/11 Memorial & Museum 5K. This race remembers those killed on September 11, 2001, and honors the service of those who bravely stepped in to help New York City recover and rebuild.  Participants on the three-mile race route follow a similar path that first responders, and rescue and recovery workers took on their way to Ground Zero on that tragic day, and in the days, weeks and months afterward.

For this year’s event, organizers enlisted next-door neighbor Spotify (our NYC headquarters are located at 4 World Trade Center) to help. We invited Ally Love from Peloton to emcee, and popped-up a DJ booth with DJ Love Language at the starting line to pump up participants. We also tapped teen DJ Annie Red to spin for families post-run, and provided a photobooth and fun giveaways.

“Spotify is proud to call 4 World Trade Center our NYC home. As part of this community, we recognize the profound responsibility to honor the history of our location—not just in September, but year-round,” said Dustee Jenkins, Chief Public Affairs Officer at Spotify. “This year, we are thrilled to support the 9/11 Memorial & Museum 5K with activations that will energize and inspire participants, ensuring the spirit of resilience and community continues to propel us all forward.”

Finally, more than 25 Spotify bandmates laced up their running and walking shoes to join in the festivities.
