10 Billion Streams and Counting: Spotify Singles Celebrates Its Biggest Hits
Spotify Singles, our longest-running original recorded music franchise, has officially surpassed 10 billion collective streams worldwide. That’s a whole lot of listening, and a testament to the power of connecting artists with fans in exciting new ways, since the program launched in 2016.
Spotify Singles provides a unique platform for artists across genres to reimagine one of their existing tracks or pay homage to their musical heroes by covering a song of their choice. Recorded in Spotify’s state-of-the-art studios in New York City, Los Angeles, London, and Stockholm, these sessions have resulted in nearly 1,000 recordings from more than 750 artists in 45 markets. In addition to our own studios, Spotify Singles have been recorded in famous studio spaces around the world, including Abbey Road and Electric Lady Studios.
Further expanding our global reach, our Stockholm Studio is now officially open to artists across Europe. The studio had previously only hosted Nordic artists. Damiano David, who fronts the Italian rock band Måneskin, recently inaugurated the refreshed space with a fiery cover of “Nothing Breaks Like A Heart,” which has already amassed more than 6 million global streams.
“We are thrilled to have reached the 10-billion-stream milestone for Spotify Singles,” said Bryan Johnson, International Head of Artist and Industry Partnerships at Spotify. “Since 2016, the program has been an outlet for hundreds of artists to express themselves, engage their fans with new music, and connect with new listeners around the world. By opening up our award-winning Stockholm Studio to artists, including emerging artists from all over Europe, we plan to enable even more beneficiaries of the program while encouraging new opportunities for creative collaboration.”
Eunu Song, Manager, Global Music Programs at Spotify, added, “It’s an honor for our teams to celebrate this incredible milestone. We’re proud that our program provides artists at all levels with a space to foster their creative visions and express themselves through new sounds. Listening back through the Spotify Singles catalog for this celebration is a path down memory lane of the songs and stories that have been special to our artists and the teams at Spotify over the past nine years. On a global scale, it’s been incredible to see our expansion of Singles into new markets.”
From intimate acoustic renditions to genre-bending collaborations, Spotify Singles deliver unforgettable musical moments.
